What do you want students to take away from your classes? What do they learn?
To best understand how to be healthcare leaders, we must understand how our systems of care fail millions of Americans, especially the poor and those who live in rural areas, every day.
What advice would you give to those considering your online program?
Be engaged—especially in group discussions, as there is much to learn from others and much for you to share and teach. Bring your best self, and others will as well.
What is the value of a higher degree in the field in which you teach? What are some of the skills students gain in this program?
Additional academic study gives some critical distance to the work. Healthcare—especially in poor and underserved areas—is difficult, emotional and can be overwhelming. Stepping back helps us see patterns and learn lessons more quickly so we can be our best selves for the world.
What is the one book you think everyone should read?
“The Sun Also Rises” by Ernest Hemingway
Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students may not know about you.
Baseball is, perhaps, the most perfect system that humans have ever created.
What are your preferred pronouns?
